In collaboration with GREC (Groupe de Recherches et d'Essais Cinématographiques) and with the support of the Consulate General of France in Jerusalem, Filmlab Palestine has launched a residency and workshop program designed to enhance the scriptwriting skills of Palestinian filmmakers, specifically directors and screenwriters. This residency provides an opportunity for one Palestinian filmmaker to reside in France for two weeks, immersing themselves in a comprehensive and intensive learning environment aimed at perfecting the art of writing short films.
The main goal of the residency is to help Palestinian filmmakers refine their scriptwriting techniques while broadening their cinematic knowledge and professional network. The program will enable the selected filmmaker to:
- Enhance Scriptwriting Skills: Engage in deep reflection and discussion of their script within a group, focusing on visual storytelling and the integration of cinematic techniques.
- Professional Mentorship: Receive individual feedback and guidance on their project from industry professionals, including scriptwriters, directors, and producers.
- Explore Actor Direction and Staging: Learn how to effectively direct actors and manage staging through hands-on experience.
- Cinematic Analysis: Broaden their understanding of cinema through film analysis and discussions, sharpening their appreciation for film aesthetics.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Improve communication skills with technicians and crew members, learning how to collaborate in a film production environment.
- Learn the Cinema Industry Landscape: Gain insights into the market dynamics of short films and understand the professional pathways for filmmakers.
Program Structure: The residency consists of 15 intensive days, totaling 120 hours, and includes the following components: Writing Workshop, Cinema Aesthetics and Culture, Professional Interventions, Actor Direction and Staging, Production Economics, Cinemas and Cinematheque Screenings, and Networking Opportunities.
